Chak De! India is a 2007 sports drama film which follows the fortunes of the National Women's Hockey Team. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, it was directed by Shimit Amin and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film premiered in the International Indian Film Academy Awards 2007 in Toronto on 30 April 2007 to much anticipation following its release in India on 9 August 2006. Chak De! India was released across theatres in North America by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures under their Buena Vista International banner. However, soon thereafter, the coach of the Indian Men's Hockey Team, M. K. Kaushik (Ram Kapoor) is sacked by Inder Singh (Manoj Pahwa), the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF)'s president. The decision is taken under the pressure of a few IHF officials on account of Kaushik's attitude and his racism towards certain players in his team. This angers Kabir and Mrs. Gupta (Padmini Kolhapure), the federation president (Konkona Sen Sharma). While Kaushik is away, his assistant coach, Max Master (Hrithik Roshan) urges the players to give up their dreams and go back to normal life. One day while playing a game at their home ground in Kolkata (Calcutta), the women's team loses composure and loses possession of the ball. The next day, Max Master confronts by saying that he should be made head coach of India's men's national hockey team. Kabir responds by saying that he should first make a name for himself as a coach by leading a team other than a national team. Max Master accepts the challenge and goes to meet Inder Singh, who has been watching the women's hockey team practicing every day from the beginning. He tells him that if his players can defeat his men's hockey team then he will be given the opportunity to become their coach. The women's hockey team accepts the challenge and Kabir trains them for ten days to prepare them for it. However, while playing their first match against Max Master's men's team, they again lose composure and lose possession of the ball. Kabir chases after the player who lost possession of the ball and is chased out of the stadium. Kabir then meets with Inder Singh, who has promised to make him head coach for the Indian men's national hockey team if they win the World Cup. Kabir also accepts this challenge. Two months later, when they are in their final match against Ireland, Kaushik threatens Kabir that he will take him to court if he does not stop leading his team. Inder Singh intervenes in this meeting and promises that Kaushik will not be involved in any more decisions concerning his team's fate in future World Cups. cfa1e77820
